Fishing  accessories

As the popularity of fishing has increased in recent years, the proper fishing accessories are critical to successful fishing. The basic needs of rod, reel, hooks, line, and sinkers are vital.  However, the use of accessories can greatly enhance the fishing experience. These Supplies can be bought at the local bait shop, online store, or the national chain of fishing/outdoorsmen merchandisers. There are functional products to serve the fishing population.

Outriggers are popular accessories. An outrigger is an element of the boat’s rigging and an outrigger when discussing fishing is a pole or a string of poles that are unyielding and extend beyond the side of a boat.   The outrigger allows the boat to troll more lines in the water without tangling and it also incites a school of fish.  The prices for an outrigger can vary with one brand advertised for $26.99. It has a new telescoping design which makes it easy to store in small boats as it is constructed of five lightweight fiberglass sections.  The outrigger advertised extends to 15 feet in length and weight less than ¾ pounds.

Another one of the popular fishing accessories are downriggers.   A downrigger is a device that uses the trolling method while fishing as it places a lure at the desired depth.  A downrigger is made up of a horizontal pole ranging from three to six-feet.  It supports a large weight known as a cannonball by a steel cable and a clip fastens a fishing line to the cannonball weight.  Bait or lure is then attached to the clip.  The types of lures used with outriggers vary from metal objects shaped like spoons with colored tape to plastic or rubber “squids” that fluctuate in color.  The prices for downriggers can vary. One brand recommended for canoes, jon boats and small watercraft is advertised at $74.99.  It has a horizontal manual reel and brake, is pre-spooled with 100 ft of 120-lb test stainless steel cable, and resists corrosive saltwater locations.

Tackle bags, lure catchers, rod rack and fillet kits are also popular fishing accessories.

Lure catchers are valued among anglers because they are expensive and anglers want to be able to reuse them time after time.  They are placed onto the line and slide down to the lure.  The chains on the lure catchers go around the lure, attaching to the hooks.  A typical lure catcher can cost approximately $20.  A portable rod rack is a convenient way to carry and store rods and reels and is used to prevent tangling.  The prices for portable rod racks vary from $20 and up. A fillet kit is usually comprised of a solid wood board with clips to hold the fish.  A 6” rust-resistant fillet knife, and a knife sharpener should also be included.

The use of fishing accessories can improve and augment the fishing experience. Preparedness is so important in fishing.  Outriggers, downriggers, tackle bags, lure catchers, rod racks, fillet kits and  boat cushions are just some of the fishing accessories available.  There are so many options.  The ability to use fishing accessories increases the chances of catching fish.
